There are two routes to reach Spiti. One is via Manali while the other is via Shimla. Shimla route is considered to be one of the best routes to reach Spiti Valley especially when it comes to winter Spiti road trips. The gradual ascend makes it easy for people to get acclimatized to the high altitude and weather conditions. Not to mention that the views in the backdrop of the Hindustan-Tibet highway make it all the more worth it.
Spiti Valley or ‘Little Tibet’ as it is famously called, is a landscape that seems to be carved out of a painting. The virgin villages, snow-covered mastiffs, treacherous pass, and beautiful lakes make Spiti one of the most stunning places in India. Like any other mountainous place, for your Spiti trip to be memorable and safe, it is very important to understand the place in relation to weather and seasons and decide the best time to visit Spiti valley accordingly. The summer months of March-June are considered to be the best to visit Spiti not only due to the pleasant weather but also fewer crowds. For that perfect winter vacation, the months of October-February are the best time to visit Spiti. This is when the landscape is frosted in white and one can see the elusive wildlife and the striking frozen waterfalls and lakes.
Individuals who are not accustomed to higher elevations may experience altitude sickness. AMS symptoms include: 1. Symptoms of Light: Appetite loss Sleep deprivation Urine passage is difficult. 2. Mild Symptoms: This is a bad headache. Breathing irregularities Nausea Mild sluggishness 3. Severe Symptoms: Hand and face swelling Dizzinness Standing is difficult. The heart gurgles There is no energy. It can be alleviated or avoided by slowing the rate of ascent - for this reason, we usually recommend at least 7 days for a tour of the valley, allowing plenty of time to gradually ascend. If anyone in the group continues to feel ill, there is enough time in the itinerary for them to have a relaxing morning until they feel better! Pain relievers and extra fluids can usually help.

As, it's a cold dry dessert area in the altitude of approximate 15,000 ft. the weather in Spiti can be extreme with the situations varying from morning daylight to the night . In Summers the temperature can be 20-25 centigrade in the day and 18-20 centigrade by the night time.
